The best things to do in San Antonio

San Antonio River Walk

Winding along the banks of the San Antonio River is the River Walk, a network of pedestrian pathways that travel under bridges and beside trendy restaurants, bars and shops. It takes you through the city's liveliest areas and is a great way to explore San Antonio. You can also enjoy a river cruise to glide along the waters and watch the world pass by.

The Alamo

San Antonio has a rich Spanish colonial past, housing five Spanish frontier missions. The Alamo is perhaps the most recognizable. It was the site of the Battle of the Alamo in 1863 – a key moment in the Texas Revolution. Wander its grounds on a guided tour to discover the long barracks, museum and see several artefacts from the battle itself, including the Alamo Battle Cannons.

Historic Market Square

Just west of Downtown San Antonio is the Historic Market Square. It's the city's Mexican shopping area and packs three blocks full of stores, restaurants – and the largest Mexican market in the US. Drive down and park up to see colorful regalia draped between buildings, find priceless trinkets and fresh, local produce or enjoy an authentic meal at one of the many eateries.
